Watching the latest and, reportedly, final trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, however, has completely alienated me from the character. I realize it's only part of a massive marketing campaign, and is intended to lure folks away from whatever else they were intending to do on opening weekend -- as early as April 16-18 in Australia, parts of Europe and Latin America, and in North America on May 2 -- but this strikes me as the most artificial, least human, least appealing manifestation of a big-screen superhero tale to date.
Is that appealing to you? To moviegoers in general? In a best-case-scenario, I hope that I'm entirely wrong and that the movie, in its entirety, will prove to be a pleasant surprise that prizes Peter, Gwen, Harry, and other characters over and above the physics-defying computer flying stunts and whiz-bang whooshing that sounds like a billion souls being sucked out of their bodies.
Meanwhile, here's that trailer. Help yourself.
