New Trailer for PENNY DREADFUL Will Give You Chills

Set to premiere at SXSW next month before its TV debut in May, the new Showcase series Penny Dreadful has a new trailer. And it's pretty creepy, with plenty of blood, mystery, sex and overall macabre-ness to appeal to the genre fan.

It takes its name from 19th century cheap horror booklets that used to sell to the lower classes on the Victorian London streets. And so set in that period, the series imagines various literary characters come to life, intermingling in strange and horrific ways. So far, eight episodes have been shot, and the likes of Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear and others star. Directors Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible), Coky Giedroyc, James Hawes and Dearbhla Walsh bring a European-grotesque-carnivalesque feel to the table. While technically it's a US-UK co-production, it looks far more European in its attention to both historical and literary detail, and its sexual explicitness. Check out the trailer below.
