ILO ILO Takes Top Honours At Taipei Golden Horse Awards

Singaporean drama Ilo Ilo continued its run of awards wins in Taiwan this evening, where it was named Best Film at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards - widely regarded as the foremost Chinese language film awards in the World. Director Anthony Chen was also named Best New Director, as well as picking up the Best Original Screenplay award. Actress Yeo Yann Yann was also named Best Supporting Actress for the film.

Best Actor went to Li Kang Sheng for his role in Tsai Ming Liang's Stray Dogs, which also won the Best Director award. Zhang Ziyi was named Best Actress for The Grandmaster, Wong Kar Wai's martial arts epic, which had been many people's favourite to take home top honours on the night. Despite missing out in the rest of the major categories, The Grandmaster also won the Audience Award, Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Costumes & Make-Up, coming away the big winner on the night. 

Surprisingly, however, Yuen Wo Ping missed out on the Best Action Choreography award, which went to Jackie Chan and his crew for CZ12 (Chinese Zodiac). Other winners included Jia Zhangke's controversial A Touch Of Sin, which won Best Editing and Best Original Score, Li Xuejian was named Best Supporting Actor for Back To 1942, So Young won the Best Adapted Screenplay award, while Yeh Ju Feng (producer of Chung Mong Hong's Soul) was named Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year.
