As a long time fan of Kurt Vonnegut I am very well aware that much of the literary madman's work is well nigh impossible to translate to the screen thanks to his fondness for messing with format and the simple fact that much of what makes Vonnegut Vonnegut is the wordplay on the page. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see more people try and the folks behind the proposed adaptation of his short story 2BR02B have latched on to a doozy of a story.
The story is set in a near future where overpopulation has become such a major issue that before any birth is approved the parents must provide receipts from adults who have volunteered to die first to make space for the new arrival. Enter a soon to be father of triplets with no such receipts at all.

No advance name recognition here, no built in audiences. Nope, this one is catching the eye the good old fashioned way, with a compelling premise and a really beautifully executed promo video.

With interviews already secured with many of the key figures involved in one of the stranger kids' creations ever - including Art Spiegelman, Len Brown, Mark Newgarden, John Pound, Tom Bunk and Jay Lynch - the majority of the money raised will go towards actually getting to where these guys are and getting the interviews in the can. Which dies seem like a rather key part of the process.
Ask people what the biggest concern about putting money into a proposed project is and more often than not you'll have people ask how they know the film will actually get made. No such problem with Canadian indie Centre Island. The film's already in the can and they're just looking for help paying the bills for post production.
In an alternate reality, people under the influence of the mysterious Brent Crater are quarantined on Centre Island. Fed up with the secrets of their parents, three teenagers struggle to understand what is happening in their strange isolated community.
The director of Hoop Dreams is tackling a familiar face for his upcoming project Life Itself, a biographical documentary about the life of Roger Ebert based on his own memoir. Martin Scorsese is on board as an executive producer for this one and confirmed interviews already include the likes of Errol Morris and Werner Herzog.
