Our love for British director Ben Wheatley knows no bounds. We have been massive fans of his since
Down Terrace and have followed him diligently through
Kill List,
Sightseers and
A Field In England. And now the director has given us another reason to applaud him. T
odd shared the possibility the other day that Wheatley was on the director's list, but now it has been officially announced that Wheatley will direct the first two episodes of season eight of
Doctor Who. He will also direct the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, who will take over from Matt Smith. The only downside to all of this is that these episodes will not air until Fall 2014! Egads!
"I am very excited and honoured to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who. I've been a fan since childhood (Tom Baker is my Doctor if you are asking)," Wheatley told
ScreenDaily.
"I've been watching the current run of Doctor who with my son and have discovered it all over again. The work that has been done is amazing. I'm really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor."
