ENDER'S GAME Belongs To Harrison Ford, According To New Trailer

As much as I enjoyed Orson Scott Card's novel when I read it sometime in the 1990s, I can't help feeling that the movie version looks completely generic so far. And the newest trailer doesn't change that feeling.

What the trailer reinforces is that this is Harrison Ford's movie. That makes perfect sense from a marketing standpoint -- it's Harrison Ford's return to sci-fi! (Please forget that Cowboys vs. Aliens nonsense) -- though if the movie as a whole makes Ford's character the centerpiece, much of the original's unique perspective will be lost. And I'm afraid that director Gavin Hood's previous foray into big-budget filmmaking (2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine) does not inspire any advance confidence.

I'm always open to being surprised, though, and perhaps Ender's Game will deliver a completely satisfying experience. Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin, Ben Kingsley, and Viola Davis all play key roles; it's heading for release on November 1.
