Ah, yes, here we go. Filmmaker Mark Hartley (Not Quite Hollywood) has remade Richard Franklin's 1978 shocker Patrick and the first official, full-length trailer is, well, electrifying.
In this very modern twist on the Frankenstein story, Charles Dance is a doctor experimenting on a comatose patient named Patrick. But he describes his experiments as the opportunity to do "remarkable things" when he talks to new nurse Sharni Vinson, who is strangely drawn to the nice-looking young man lying prone on a hospital bed. Rachel Griffiths appears to be a veteran nurse who is on hand to issue stern warnings.
The trailer looks as though Hartley has taken the best elements of Ozploitation and mixed them with three very strong dramatic performances. The film is due to screen at the Melbourne International Film Festival for the first time on Saturday, July 27.
