Did you happen to walk by a comic book store Thursday and hear the collective gasp, cheers and/or virgin sacrifices to the comic book gods? If so, you heard the reaction to the news that MMA fighter turned actress Gina Carano will be working with Rob Liefeld to bring one of his earlier creations Avengelyne to the big screen. Carano and Liefeld are re-conceiving the title to be a starring franchise for the rising star in the vein of the Underworld series, which starred Kate Beckinsale. They will be at Comic-Con this Saturday to meet with fans and sign posters featuring Carano as the character.
In the comic book, Avengelyne is a fallen angel, banished from Heaven by God after she was tricked into questioning His love for humans. Stripped of most of her angelic abilities (and most of her clothes, it would seem by the image to the left), all she had left on Earth was superior strength and her blood could be used as a weapon, or a miracle when empowered by quoting Scripture. So Avenglyne fought demons on Earth, part of her preparation for Armageddon.
So, for those of you hoping to get a signed poster featuring Carano in an outfit like the one in the cover image above, I think your hopes are a tad lofty. Though I am with you all on this one, I don't think that is going to happen.
