As one of the most revered and enigmatic writers of the 20th century, it's inevitable that J.D. Salinger would eventually become the subject of a documentary. Directed by Shane Salerno, the first trailer for
Salinger has been released by the Weinstein Company today. Personally, I've always had more interest in the work than the man (if he wanted to keep his private life private, that's fine). The trailer features interviews with Hollywood luminaries such as Edward Norton, John Cusack, Martin Sheen and Danny DeVito. I'm a little confused as to why they would be interviewed on the subject of Salinger, other than to get some commercial attention, so I'm hoping the film will feature interviews with writers and academics (not to suggest that these people aren't intelligent, but they're not exactly who I want to hear talk about the great author). The film is scheduled for release in September, and Simon & Schuster will be publishing an accompanying biography.
