Hugh Jackman Turns Vigilante in First Trailer for Denis Villeneuve's PRISONERS

Quebecois director Denis Villenueve caught everyone's attention with the incredible Incendies in 2010, garnering a Best Foreign Language film Oscar nomination and a fistful of other awards in the process. His back catalogue also includes the terrifying true-crime drama Polytechnique, and now we get our first glimpse of the director's Hollywood debut, Prisoners - which boasts an impressive cast including Hugh Jackman, Jack Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Viola Davis and Paul Dano.

Jackman plays the father of a little girl who goes missing, but when local cop Gyllenhaal releases Dano's prime suspect due to a lack of evidence, he takes the law into his own hands, going all vigilante on the guy.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this first trailer for Prisoners, which is scheduled for release in the USA in September, shows us quite a lot of the film's story arc, but it also promises plenty of gloomy wintry neighbourhoods, tense confrontations and a hell of a lot of shouting. Judging from the heavyweight line-up, Warner Bros is clearly positioning the film as an early awards contender, with performance nods clearly high on the agenda.
