NSFW: Dare to Press Play on the V/H/S/2 Red Band Trailer!

Two things to note heading into the red band trailer for V/H/S/2. One, if you want to be really impressed by what this second batch of directors have pulled off for the sequel then go right ahead. Two, there is so much good stuff packed into this trailer I almost feel betrayed by it, like I've seen too much. So if you wish to remain pleasantly surprised then refrain from watching. But we know you can't resist - and neither could we.

Oh, I should add a third point. This is definitely, definitely NSFW. Indeed, this is as red band as it gets.

Only one of the original directors, Adam Wingard (You're Next), returns. His regular partner in crime, writing partner Simon Barrett, takes his first turn in the director's chair for the wraparound segment. The remaining three come from Gregg Hale & Eduardo Sanchez (Blair Witch Project), Gareth Evans (The Raid) & Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre), and Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun).

Inside a darkened house looms a column of TVs littered with VHS tapes, a pagan shrine to forgotten analog gods. The screens crackle and pop endlessly with monochrome vistas of static--white noise permeating the brain and fogging concentration. But you must fight the urge to relax: this is no mere movie night. Those obsolete spools contain more than just magnetic tape. They are imprinted with the very soul of evil.

From the demented minds that brought you last year's V/H/S comes V/H/S/2, an all-new anthology of dread, madness, and gore. This follow-up ventures even further down the demented path blazed by its predecessor, discovering new and terrifying territory in the genre. This is modern horror at its most inventive, shrewdly subverting our expectations about viral videos in ways that are just as satisfying as they are sadistic. The result is the rarest of all tapes--a second generation with no loss of quality.

Our own Ryland Aldrich saw the anthology at Sundance when it was still under the title S-VHS and had this to say...

"With only four shorts plus the wrap around, the finished product is a tighter, more entertaining, and more consistent film. Consider the bar raised...

It's pretty obvious the producers of V/H/S took note that the pieces that were the most successful were the ones with the best senses of humor. All of the segments in S-VHS have a levity to them that makes the jolts of horror all the more fun. This is greatly aided by the sound design, which is consistently excellent across all the pieces. With its streamlined approach and group of ridiculously talented filmmakers at the helm, S-VHS is a total success, and there will surely be more to come."

V/H/S/2 will be on iTunes/On Demand June 6, 2013 and in theaters July 12, 2013.
