I understand that there is some Hollywood rule out there that all Hero-Journey Blockbuster (tm) trailers have to look alike. I understand that if you have Harrison Ford in your movie that you might as well use his voice to sell your movie. What I do not understand is whether Gavin Hood aims to preserve the tone of
Ender's Game, very much from a young (if extraordinarily gifted) child's point of view, instead of indulging in noisy action blockbuster familiarity.
Two things: Haliee Steinfeld (the young lead from the Coen's remake of True Grit) goes a fair way in confirming her acting ability with nothing more a single glance on screen. It is delightful to see Viola Davis back in Solaris mode; she should be in more science fiction films.
The boys, including Ben Kingsley in Mr. Nobody styled facial tats, are less compelling, as are the explosions. Your mileage may vary.
