Jon Stewart to Delve into Directing Feature Films With ROSEWATER

Deadline is reporting that The Daily Show's Jon Stewart is stepping up to direct Rosewater, a film about Maziar Bahari's capture and confinement by Iranian security forces during the Green Uprising. Stewart wrote the script based on Bahari's memoir, Then They Came For Me: A Family's Story Of Love, Captivity And Survival

Fans of the show have seen Bahari several times; in fact, it was Bahari's appearance on Stewart's satirical program that was used as fodder during intense interrogations.

Done well, this could be a beautifully caustic, intelligent and darkly humorous take on something that must have been equally parts harrowing and surreal to live through. Scott Rudin, a guy who has quietly made some of my favourite films of all time, is producing.

Since Stewart is taking a dozen weeks away from his show, John Oliver (known by some outside TDS for his role in Community) will take over hosting duties.
