Based on the 1947 novel of the same name by Boris Vian, the films stars Romain Duris, Omar Sy, and the poster girl for young French romance Audrey Tautou. Colin (Duris) and Chloe (Tautou) are happy, in love, and marry quickly, but an illness puts a damper on young wedded bliss. Chloe contracts an sickness that requires her to be constantly surrounded by flowers, and Colin will spare no expense to keep her alive.
The trailer displays Gondry's wonderfully symmetrical eye for the whimsical, yet never is his work pretentious or superficial. Rather than being strictly fantastical, Gondry marries the fantastic of the imagination with the odd reality that only comes from the giddiness of love, and the pain that accompanies it. The trailer has some dialogue in French without subtitles, but his work is a language that speaks for itself. The film is set for release in France in April. Consider me officially won over with anticipation.
