After a shakey start, writer-directors Alan Mak and Felix Chong have finally hit their stride in the last couple of years, with
The Lost Bladesman and
Overheard 2 both proving to be accomplished and entertaining thrillers in their respective genres. Here's hoping that this new run of good form continues in their new film.
The Silent War (formerly
Windseeker), stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai as a blind man recruited by the Chinese authorities in the 1950s to aid them in a secret mission thanks to his unnaturally strong sense of hearing. The film also stars Zhou Xun and Mavis Fan, and was adapted from the novel by Mai Jia, who also wrote the source material for 2009's gripping spy thriller,
The Message.
The Silent War is due to hit screens on 10 August.
