ZORRO: THE COMPLETE SERIES

Forgive me if this was previously covered back at release but since I can't find it anywhere I told my buddies over at A&E we'd give it another try. It's worth it in any case. This is exactly the sort of swashbuckling TV show that is missing-in-action these days. Originally airing on the Family Channel for four seasons (1990-1993) all 88 episodes are available here in this nifty box set.

I had forgotten how much fun this was. For one thing the show had a constant parade of fun guest stars. Andre The Giant, Adam West, Daniel Craig and Jesse Ventura all made appearances. But the main thing cast and crew got right was the tone. I grew up watching reruns of Zorro (1957-1961) and this manages to capture that wide eyed sense of wonder while developing believable characters and plotlines. No wonder it ran for so long.

It looks and sounds solid but I doubt any significant work was done in the transfer. As popular as it is there is a good chance a bluray set will hit the shelves at some point but at 88 episodes  for just over fifty bucks I would just go ahead and pick it up. There's a bonus disc here which includes older Zorro films and a pilot but nothing really special in the way of special features.
