SyFy's franchise woes continue - cancels Stargate Universe

Having already cancelled the dull as dirt Caprica SyFy has outdone themselves and cancelled the third incantation of the Stargate shows Stargate Universe. The cast and fans of the show found out today that they won't have a third season to come back to. Some of those cast members found out when the Twitterverse exploded with the news long before their own reps could contact them.

David Blue - Eli "Crap. Just heard the news as well. Apparently, nobody decided to tell us ahead of time. My rep heard it online. Seems they cancelled #SGU..."

Ming Na - Camile "To find out #SGU is cancelled 1st from my tweeps is the power of twitter. I'll miss my #SGU family very much! Thank u 4 your love & support!"

This makes me sad. Very sad indeed. I didn't gravitate towards any Stargate show until now and was rather fond of the darker of the three. But for a fan base that had already felt shunted by developments during Stargate Atlantis when fan favorite Dr. Carson Beckett was written out of the show [seriously, how did fans find MY e-mail address when that happened], it was even harder to get them to accept this broodier series. Ratings comparison between Atlantis and Universe showed a sharp decline in viewership. Alas, business is business and SyFy looks to future series like Being Human [I got a doozy of a press kit to share with you after the holidays] and a BSG prequel film Blood & Chrome to replace these lost shows. Where will SyFy's crosshairs fall next? Amanda Tapping and Sanctuary perhaps? SyFy execs have to keep themselves busy somehow.
