Our dreams of seeing Julia Dietze parade around in a Nazi uniform just got a lot closer to reality!

It breaks the heart of every genre loving film geek when we read of projects never getting off the ground because the world simply lacks an equation where people with money have the testicular fortitude to back these potential gems. The most recent victim was Worst Case Scenario, probably being the nearest and dearest to our hearts. It was like finding out your crazy Dutch uncle on your mom's side who you only met a couple times passed away suddenly in the night when he fell off the wrong side of a dam walking home drunk at night. So consider it pure joy my friends and readers when we find out today that Timo Vuorensola's Nazis in space sci-fi epic Iron Sky has finally completed gathering the funding needed to get this project up and running comes as a great relief to all of us here at ScreenAnarchy. Other than WCS I don't think there was another genre pic coming out of Europe that had us crossing our fingers and finding religion just so we could say prayers at night for.

Long-gestating Nazis-on-the-moon project "Iron Sky" closed the final gap in its financing with a €800,000 ($1.1 million) grant from the Finnish Film Foundation. The genre spoof, which supposes a group of Nazis escaped to the moon before the end of World War II and are planning a new Fourth Reich, has been making the rounds for at least two years. Its €4.2 million ($5.8 million) budget is huge for Finnish standards but producers Blind Spot have lined up backers including Walt Disney Finland and Finnish broadcaster YLE as well as co-producers 27 Film Production in Germany and Film & Music Entertainment in the U.K. Director Timo Vuorensola is set to begin principle photography on "Iron Sky" in January for a 2011 release. Did you see that? Go back and read the second last sentence. Yeah. Walt Disney Finland. Total awesomeness would be achieved if I could go into a Disney Store and buy a space Nazi from the same shelf as a Stitch doll. 'Mommy? Why is that fat man crying by the dollies?'
