I think it is nearly impossible to go one week without mentioning Takashi Miike but I don't ever recall us ever mentioning this project. We were probably too caught up in his other films that were screening about that time. This past summer Miike filmed an adaptation of the novel Kamisama no Puzzle, English title God's Puzzle originally written by Shinji Kimoto.
Hayato Ichihara will star as twins in the film. One is a bright student, the other is drifting aimlessly through life. They team up with a brilliant, beautiful dropout [Mitsuki Tanimura] to unlock the secrets of the universe. Their plan is to build a universe of their own.
I think you would also be interested to know that the producer Haruki Kadokawa read the 2002 novel while in prison on drug charges. Another announcement today also states that comedian Yoshio Kojima will also have a small role in the film. This is worth mentioning not only because it is a Miike project but also because Kojima performs his comedy in a speedo. Don't believe me? I've included links below kiddies.
In one part of the story, a hidden camera video of Tanimura's character appears on the Internet, and Ichihara invades another college campus in search of the culprit. However, he gets stopped by the sports-minded Kojima, and a fight between them ensues. Kojima, who was reportedly chosen for the role due to his physical build, will appear on screen wearing a white tank top, rather than his trademark bathing suit.
What a shame. God's Puzzle filmed this past summer and it is looking to release this coming summer.
