Some curious developments on the proposed Snow White/Shaolin Monk movie, working title: Snow and the Seven, that has long since been in the news. Almost a couple years ago Yeun Wo-Ping's name was bouncing around to helm the picture. Though no longer attached as the director he will still remain on as the action choreographer. Instead, former music video director Francis Lawrence of Constantine and I Am Legend is now attached to direct the pic. Given the projects the Lawrence has been attached to in the big budget genre it would appear that a significant budget is going to be available for this pic. Walt Disney Pictures hopes to start production in 2008 in China.
The story, a fantasy adventure, centers on a British girl being raised in 19th century Hong Kong. When she realizes her destiny is to conquer an evil force, she must prepare to fight by being trained by seven Shaolin monks. Hollywood Reporter
An early report by Hong Kong paper Wen Wei Po suggests the "evil force" is the queen, the girl's stepmother in her previous life, one millennium in the past. The queen have been trying to restored her mirror-on-the-wall, which was broken into seven pieces, and the last piece is in the girl's possession. Monkey Peaches
