MonkeyPeaches announced a revision to the the nominee list for the 10th annual Hong Kong Film Critics Associated awards, The Golden Bauhinina Awards. It seems with last months announcement of nominees they forgot Johnnie To in the directors category, and his work on Breaking News. I don't go out of my way to support the man, as I would others. I think of it like giving a nomination to Tony Scott. Hey, thanks for showing up.
Kung Fu Hustle once again leads the list of nominees with 6 and One Night in Mongkok [which has shot up my list of must-sees now] gets 5. WKW's 2046 got 4.
The HKFCA also announced that they will give a Lifetime Achievement Award to Chia-Lian Liu, or as he may be better known, Lau Kar-Leung. If you are looking for a god [small g] in the martial arts film circle you might as well bow down to this man. Check out his resume here and here and you'll see why. With Tsui Hark's Seven Swords [please don't suck] being released this year and a forty year career in kicking ass the man deserves serious props. Drunken Master II stills stands as one of my all-time favorite martial art films.
Winners will be announced next month.
