When it comes to likely homes for tales of masked vigilantes, Denmark is not particularly high on the list. There's just something about the concept of someone taking the law into their own hands tht doesn't click with the public perception of the Scandinavian states and yet that's exactly what we find with Fenar Ahmad's upcoing Darkland (Underverden).
A successful doctor loses his little brother in a gang-related assault and gives up his privileged life to become a masked avenger on a mission to revenge his brother’s death.
Dar Salim takes the lead role in what looks to be a bit of a boundary pusher for the popular characer actor and judging from the freshly released teaser things are looking quite good for all involved. Ahmad is certainly not aping the American approach to this sort of material with the story staying very much rooted in the sort of social realism that Danish cinema is known for while also injecting just a touch of style. This looks very promising. Take a look below.
