CUTIE HONEY: TEARS Theatrical Trailer Arrives

When the first teaser for Asai Takeshi's Cutie Honey: Tears - the big screen revival of the iconic Nagai Go character last seen in Anno Hideaki's 2004 adaptation - arrived back in April it provoked some fairly strong (and split) reactions among fans surprised by its slick, digital feel and overall darker take on the charcter. And those splits are likely to only deepen nw that the full theatrical trailer has arrived.

Offering a much larger and more detailed look both at the character and the world of the film this new trailer serves to reinforce the first impressions made by the teaser. While Anno presented a bubblegum pop take on the Cutie Honey character - a fashionable android battling evil - Asai is definitely pushing in a very different direction.  Production values and scale on this new trailer look significantly better than on the previous teaser - and a pretty firm notch above the mean for most Japanese productions these days - but time will tell whether the glossy finish is enough to win people over to this take on the character.
