Gantz:O - the latest adaptation of Oku Hiroya's popular manga - will soon have its world premiere in Venice leading up to its JApanese theatrical release and anxious fans awaiting a taste of the upcoming feature film have just got it in the form of the first trailer.
For the unfamiliar, the Gantz story follows a young man named Kei resurrected after a seemingly fatal subway accident and forced to participate in a series of ultra violent missions at the behest of his unseen master. Since launching in 2000 the manga has spawned a long running anime series, a pair of live action feature films and now this CGI animated feature from director Kawamura Yasushi. The feature follows the Osaka arc of the Gantz manga with Toyko and Osaka based teams of resurrected warriors joining forces to battle an army of yokai.
Animation and design quality on this one appears quite good - right up around the level of recent Appleseed and Final Fantasy offerings - and the high octane action is certainly very much front and center, though it's hard to say from this just how much the feature will mirror the high levels of graphic violence from the manga.
