After literally years of talk about a third live action Ghostbusters film the time has finally arrived to stop speculating on what be coming and talk about the real thing. Or at least base our speculation on some actual footage from the film all wrapped up in a pretty marketing package for easy consumption. That's right, kids, the first trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters is here and it boasts plenty of slime.
Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!
The 'reboot' word appears very much applicable here as this appears to be entirely an origin story with reference to the original films limited purely to the title cards and not at all to the footage contained within. That doesn't mean much at this point - it's very likely that they would want to hold any direct tie in to the earlier films back as a sort of Easter Egg for audiences to discover in theatre - but do with it as you may. the footage itself, though, looks quite good and, personally, I'm a fan of Feig's humor and his history with this batch of performers says good things.
