Kurzel's MACBETH Trailer Evokes VALHALLA RISING

Following a pair of clips and a successful premiere in Cannes the first proper trailer for Justin Kurzel's take on Shakespeare's Macbeth with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the lead roles has arrived laced with smoke and fog and elegant brutality in both landscape and violence and the whole thing feels more than a little bit like Nicolas Winding Refn's Valhalla Rising.

For those unfamiliar with the tale, Macbeth tells the story of a Scottish lord ascending to the throne through treachery and violence with the help of his wife. It's a role that Fassbender seems perfectly suited for and the star clearly hit it off with his director here, as Fassbender immediately snapped up Kurzel's services for the upcoming Assassin's Creed film.
