GAME OF THRONES VFX Editor Killed By Lion On Safari

In a sad turn of events, a prominent Game of Thrones crew member died violently while on vacation.

Earlier today, Variety passed on the word that it was visual effects editor Katherine Chappell who died in a previously-reported lion attack in South Africa. Chappell was only 29 years old, but had amassed an impressive body of work on both Hollywood and indie productions, including: Captain America: Winter Soldier; Godzilla (2014); Hellbender; Noah; and the upcoming Ron Howard film, In The Heart Of The Sea.

Chappell was visiting Lion Park in Johannesburg when she rolled down a window to take photos of a nearby pride of lions. Presumably, a lioness felt threatened and attacked, lunging into the window of Chappell's tour car, and fatally bit the VFX editor on the throat.
