Balakrishna Is A Bloody Badass In The LION Trailer

Hot on the heels of his epic performance in Sreenu Boyapati's Legend, Nanadamuri Balakrishna returns to the cinema with the upcoming release of his latest film, Lion. Anyone who has seen a Balakrishna movie knows that every one of them from the last decade or so shares the same basic plot: bad people do bad things and Balakrishna murders them all violently and saves the day. However, it is the panache with which NBK (as he affectionately known) dispatches his villains that holds particular sway with Tollywood audiences and is largely unparalleled among his contemporaries.

Nandamuri Balakrishna isn't a great actor, nor a particularly great dancer, but he has charisma and the ability to make you believe that he is all of this and more. There aren't many heroes in Tollywood today who are capable to delivering the 3-page monologues (or dialogues as they are known locally) of tongue-twisting Telugu the way that NBK can. He is the everyman hero of Andhra Pradesh, a little bit over the hill, kind of pudgy, but he can still chop off your goddamned head with an axe if you cross him.

This trailer for Lion looks as though he's thoroughly embracing the role of the ultraviolent hero to which he's been relegated over the last few movies, and we are all the more fortunate for it.

Enjoy this trailer for Lion.
