On Tuesday, it was announced that Sono Sion and Sometani Shōta will team up once again for live-action adaptation of Wakasugi Kiminori's (Detroit Metal City) popular sci-fi comedy manga All Esper Dayo! ( みんな!エスパーだよ!). First published in Weekly Young Magazine in 2009, the original manga has already spawned a late-night television drama. Co-directed by Sono, Irie Yu (Hibi Rock, Joker Game), Tsukikawa Shô (Keitai Kanojo+, Keitai Kareshi+) and Suzuki Taichi (The Brat!), the series of 12-minute episodes aired on TV Tokyo from April 12 to July 5, 2013.
Set in Higashimikawa, Ehime prefecture, All Esper Dayo! revolves around a group of ordinary townspeople who develop superpowers overnight. Thanks to a solid script full of raunchy gags and colorful characters the overly-familiar premise is quickly turned upside down and inside out. It hasn't been confirmed yet, but it seems that the film will follow the same course of events as the TV series. Sometani Shōta will reprise his role as Yoshirō Komagawa, an average teenager who acquires the ability to read other people's minds. Other cast members haven't been announced.
Sono has now four films set for release in 2015: Shinjuku Swan (30 May), The Chasing World (11 July), Love & Peace (Summer) and All Esper Dayo! (September).
