Austria's Ulrich Seidl is finding the odd in the everyday with his latest documentary,
Im Keller (
In The Basement) in which he explores the basements of Austria to very strange effect.
The film sketches Austrians' relationships with their basements, and
also looks for answers to the questions of what makes them different and
whether such special characteristics exist at all. This film tour
through the everyday lives of Austrian cellars managed to find answers
and even ask some new questions, thereby shining a little light on facts
normally hidden beneath the ground.
Unfortunately there does not appear to be an English subtitled version of the trailer available yet but the visuals here - from bondage lairs, to shooting ranges, to mass taxidermy - are so striking that you'll very much get the point. Take a look below.
