LOOPER Director Rian Johnson To Write And Direct STAR WARS EPISODE VIII

Well, now, here's a little something for Star Wars fans to be excited about: With Episode VII still underway and future talk thus far largely centering on the one off spin off projects, word has broken that Disney and LucasFilm have already landed a writer-director for Episode VIII. And that task falls to Looper helmer Rian Johnson. And to this I say hot damn, sir. The hottest of damns.

Johnson is precisely the right sort of fanboy to hand this sort of project to. One who has earned his geek credentials wholeheartedly while not being at all beholden to them. He's a fiercely talented writer with the ability to balance out character and plot and always vests his characters with enough quirk and personality to keep them feeling meaty and real. And Looper proved he can handle VFX just fine, too.
