First announced about two years ago, Donnie Yen will finally be reprising the role of Wing Chun grandmaster Ip Man in the third installment of Pegasus Motion Pictures' hugely popular film franchise, according to Variety.
Following the enormous success of the first two films, it came as no surprise that the cast and crew would want to get together for a third Ip Man film. However, it has been a rather stormy journey to get to this point. Yen himself indicated soon after the release of Ip Man 2 that he did not want to play Ip Man ever again. Later when it appeared that Ip Man 3 was actually going to be made, the project had to be put on hold, rumored to be because of disagreement between the producer and Donnie over the choice of director for the third film.
Pegasus has now confirmed that Donnie Yen will be starring in Ip Man 3, which will be filmed in 3D. Raymond Wong, Wilson Yip and Edmond Wong will be returning as producer, director and screenwriter respectively. Sammo Hung, who acted as action director for the first two films, will be replaced by Yen's mentor Yuen Wo Ping. Filming is due to begin this year and release is planned for late 2015.
