Kurosawa's SEVENTH CODE: Maeda Atsuko Gets Kidnapped By Russian Mafia In First Trailer

Although Kurosawa Kiyoshi's latest film Seventh Code had its world premiere last month at Rome Film Festival, the first official trailer was released just a few hours ago today via Cinema Today's official website. Being a very innovative director, Kurosawa stunned the world many times with his genre-bending creations and quickly became a pioneer of Japanese film industry. While most known for many highly acclaimed, atmospheric, and penetrating thriller-chillers (i.e. The CurePulseSakebi), his early 2013 venture into science fiction territory called Real opened to rather mixed reviews.

Now he comes back with a thriller that centers on a mysterious girl (played by Japanese idol turned film star Maeda Atsuko) wandering around Vladivostok, Russia in search of lost love. I'm sure we all have high hopes that Seventh Code will be the director's return to form.

Here's the synopsis:

Akiko (Atsuko Maeda) travels to Vladivostok to meet Matsunaga (Ryohei Suzuki), who she first met in Tokyo and is unable to forget. Even though Akiko meets Matsunaga again, Matsunaga does not remember her. Matsunaga tells her to not trust anyone in the foreign country and he leaves. Akiko tries to find Matsunaga again, but she is attacked by the mafia and thrown out in the wasteland without any money.

Seventh Code will open in Japanese theaters on January 11, 2014. Catch the first footage below.
