Kim Ki-duk's MOEBIUS Finds A US Home

Here's a phrase you don't see on a press release every day: "Film Movement's genre releasing label leaves nothing to the imagination in the wordless castration thriller."

Yes, kids, Kim Ki-duk's acclaimed and controversial latest effort Moebius has found itself a home in the USA with RAM Releasing who are planning a theatrical and VOD release across the nation in summer 2014. which is a good thing, indeed, though they may want to ask themselves what, exactly, will stop the hardcore Kim fans from simply importing the Korean release long before that point. It certainly won't be a language barrier. Here's the official release:

November 21, 2013 (New York, NY) - RAM Releasing, the genre shingle under Film Movement (www.filmmovement.com), announced today their acquisition of MOEBIUS, the latest from acclaimed Korean director Kim Ki-Duk (Pieta; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring) whose signature style pushes the limits of challenging filmmaking and often blows right through them. Following Kim's Golden Lion win with Pieta at the Venice Film Festival last year, the prolific director is set to shock audiences again with Moebius, his latest perverse statement on family tensions, sexual boundaries and society's issues with each.

When she catches her husband having an affair, a woman attempts to castrate the cheater for his wrongdoing. Unsuccessful, she instead inflicts the unspeakable act on her own son, setting off a series of grotesque yet provocative events ranging from a hurried genital transplant to pain-inflicted orgasms that all merge in a continuous thread of delirious storytelling.

The deal was struck by President Adley Gartenstein of RAM Releasing, and by Youngjoo Suh, CEO, and Luna Kim, Director of Int'l Sales, of Finecut.

"Kim Ki-duk is well known for shocking audiences out of their comfort zones, and he does so again masterfully in Moebius. We realize this film won't be for everyone, without a word of dialogue and with graphic content, but this is exactly why RAM exists: to bring the most challenging and innovative cinema we can find to those seeking it," said RAM Releasing president Adley Gartenstein.

RAM Releasing plans a Summer 2014 day and date theatrical and VOD release for the film. Acquisition of Moebius follows RAM's recent take of Huh Jung's debut Hide & Seek, the highest-grossing Korean thriller of all time.
