From September 30, Drafthouse will make the explosive, acclaimed documentary available as a free digital download geo-blocked exclusively for Indonesia. As a result of the film dealing directly with the former Indonesian death squad leaders who have never left power, a theatrical release in its home territory is impossible, and yet the film is already being seen in secret underground screenings across the country, according to reports.
Drafthouse Films founder Tim League commented: "Joshua Oppenheimer's film is a groundbreaking work that demands to be seen and its most essential audience is the people of Indonesia. We are deeply impassioned to assist in the quest to break the government's near 40-year silence of these atrocities."
We should really just give this the Oscar for best documentary now. Anything to ensure this is watched by the widest audience possible and ensure this story is told and told and told.
