PiFan 2013: SIGHTSEERS, ON THE JOB Win Big + NAFF Project Awards

Last night, Korea's Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) wrapped its 17th edition, handing out awards and screening the world premiere of Korean thriller The Terror Live, starring Ha Jung-woo, who was in attendance.

The big winners of the night were Ben Wheatley's Sightseers, which won Best Film and Best Actress (Alice Lowe) and Erik Matti's On the Job, which took home Best Actor (Joel Torre) and the Jury's Choice Award. Among the other main competition awards, Indian crime film Ugly picked up Best Director for Anurag Kashyap and Jang Cheol-soo's webcomic hit Secretly Greatly walked away with the NH Nongyup Citizen's Choice Award.

Outside of the Puchon Choice section, the Japanese high school mystery The Kirishima Thing won the NETPAC award, Indian thriller Talaash was given the European Federation of Fantastic Film Festivals (EFFFF) Award for Best Asian Film and the LG HiEntech Award for Best Korean Film was won by WHANG Cheol-mean's Oldmen Never Die.

In the Puchon Choice Shorts competition, Eat from Germany took home the top prize, the Jury's Choice for Short Film went to 8 from Korea, while the Korean Two Boys and a Sheep won both the Best Korean Short Film and the Citizen's Choice for Short Film. The PiFan Youth Academy Award went to The Snare, the PiFan Festival Director's Award was won by 1%, Memory Lane took home the PiFan Chairman's Award and, finally, Sweet Nightmare won the Gyeonggi Superintendent of Education Award.

Meanwhile the Network of Asian Fantastic Films (NAFF), the project arm of PiFan, came to an end on Wednesday (July 24th) with its own awards ceremony. Ishikawa Kei took the top prize for his project Baby. The runner-up prizes, the NAFF Award and the IT Project Award, were given to LEE Chung's Green Field Lane No.1 and Ruined Heart! Another Love Story Between a Criminal and a Whore from Filipino director Khavn, respectively. Also on the awards menu were Kevin Lewis' Glutton, which won the Hanmac Culture Award worth USD 10,000 and KIM JHO Gwans-soo The Secret Inspector and the Vampire, which took home the USD 4,500 DAOU Tech Award.

Though all the official events have ended, PiFan is still holding two days of additional screenings this weekend for people to catch up on the awards winners and other films they may have missed.
