PiFan 2013: NAFF Nabs 21 for It Project
Looking at the 8 Korean projects in the mix we have the latest potential genre offering fom Ji Ha-jean, who took home two awards from PiFan in 2011 for his Bloody Fight in Iron-Rock Valley. He will be presenting the occult horror Re: Make. Nam Ki-woong, of Teenage Hooker Became Killing Machine (2000) fame will be present with his sci-fi comedy Capsule. Also of note is a tantalizing new period vampire film from Two Weddings and a Funeral director Kim Jho Gwang-soo called Secret Detective and Vampire.
Further afield, ScreenAnarchy favorites Justin Benson and Aaron Moohead (behind last year's Resolution) are pitching Showdown at the Cataclysm, inspired by Korean revenge thrillers. In recent years NAFF has acted as a spawning ground for Asian genre films that have taken the festival circuit by storm, recent examples include Jeon Kyu-hwan's The Weight and Yeon Sang-ho's animation King of Pigs.
NAFF's Philippines spotlight will be unveiled next Monday as we draw nearer to PiFan's opening ceremony on July 18th.
Here's a full list of this year's It Project participants.
