The first one is the much talked about thriller Big Bad Wolves by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. And now we find out that the festival will also screen Cannon Fodder, which is officially Israel's first full length zombie film. For a country that just three years ago had practically zero genre films, two in the same festival is quite the leap.
Cannon Fodder is an independent action horror film directed by Eitan Gafny, which has already toured more than a few international festivals, but only now lands its first major one. The movie takes a fun poke at the basic "Israeli military drama" premise, while taking its cues from the classic action B movies of the 80's. Its title is also a nice throwback to the famous American company that made those movies, Cannon Films, that at its heyday was headed by Israeli management.
Security operative Doron takes on one last mission: to go to Lebanon and capture Number 3 in the terrorist organisation of Hezbollah. With an elite force behind him, Doron soon discovers that reality is not so simple. A new and unknown enemy is to be dealt with - and Hezbollah are the last thing on his mind.Doron has to deal with a ticking clock in the form of extensive Israeli Defense Force attack and a ravening, totally unpredictable enemy. But now that his enemy has changed its face, it's up to him and his unit to wage a new war, a different war, to find an antidote, and get back across the border before the Middle East conflict is changed forever.
Cannon Fodder will screen at FrightFest on August 24. Check out the trailer below.
