Sanjay Dutt Takes A Bite Out Of Crime In First POLICEGIRI Trailer

The South's gonna rise again! This time, it's the south of India, whose over the top masala action style is all the rage in Bollywood these days.

The latest product of this trend is Policegiri, a film starring '80s-'90s superstar romantic lead Sanjay Dutt as a roughneck cop taking matters into his own hands, sort of like a Dirty Hari. Not surprisingly, the film is a remake of a Tamil film titled Saamy that starred Vikram and was a huge hit at the box office. The remake is directed by big shot Tamil filmmaker KS Ravikumar, who is responsible for one huge hit after another, including Kamal Hassan's bizarre vanity project Dasavataram from back in 2008. More recently, Ravikumar is currently involved in co-directing the massive Rajnikanth motion-capture behemoth, Kochadaiyaan.

The trailer is chock full of 1980s style Indian action and kind of speaks for itself, but newbies out there might not recognize some of the more reliable character actors in action. Sanjay Dutt is, of course, the lead, and puts in a convicing-ish performance as a hardass in this brief glimpse. However, it's Indian Uber-villain Prakash Raj, the modern day Amrish Puri (Mola Ram) who catches my eye. Prakash Raj is a go-to villain in all of the major Indian film industries, and I love watching him chew scenery. He does crazy like nobody's business with those massive bugling eyes.

As far as plot goes, the films official facebook page has graciously provided us with more than we are usually privy to, so I decided to share:
The movie sees Sanjay Dutt in the role of a roughneck cop DCP Rudra Aditya Devraj who doesn't mind bending the law to bring criminals to justice. In order to restore peace to the town he has to face Prakash Raj who plays the role of the main antagonist Nagori Subramaniyam. Nagori wields total control in the Southern states thanks to his links with some powerful politicians.

Prachi Desai plays Sehar in the film, a software engineer who is in two minds about marrying Sanjay Dutt due to his good cop-bad cop persona. Other actors who are integral to the film's plot include Om Puri (Commissioner Trivedi), Rajpal Yadav (Tutu), Mukesh Tiwari (Padam), Manoj Joshi (Inspector Javed) and Murali Sharma (MLA Prasad).
Policegiri hits theater screens on July 5, worldwide.
