The three films in the above headline plus Richard Raaphorst's Frankenstein's Army have just made the Sydney Film Festival in June a necessary trip north for me, with the festival unveiling these plus a slew of other anticipated titles in the first look at its programme today.
Also of note is Red Obsession, a documentary about China's burgeoning interest in red wine, Park Chan-wook's cold blooded Stoker, and Wadjda, the first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia. There's also Midnight's Children, the long-awaited adaptation of the Salman Rushdie novel. The guy attends the opening of an envelope so I fully expect Rushdie to make an appearance here too.
As hinted in the headline, Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 classic Rear Window is also screening at the festival. The screening is accompanying Jeff Desom's timelapse video installation Rear Window Loop. As one of my favourite films ever and an unequivocal masterpiece I seriously hope they give it the royal treatment and screen it at the palatial State Theatre.
The Sydney Film Festival runs 5-16 June 2013. The full programme will be released May 8.
