Jang's sophomore feature looks to be a big change of pace for him. He got his start as an assistant director to Kim Di-duk and his first film was a dark genre pic with arthouse sensibilities. Secretly, Greatly, which looks to be a comedy, drama and thriller, sees him making the big jump to the commercial mainstream. While I don't expect something as unique as his previous effort, I hope he is able to transfer his atmospheric mise-en-scene, careful pacing and strong tension-building to this latest big-budget feature from Korean major Showbox. His elevation to the big league also reminds me of Jo Sung-hee who brought us the stark and excellent post-apocalyptic indie End of Animal (2010) before lighting up the charts with the fantasy romance A Werewolf Boy last fall.
In any case we'll find out very soon as the film will be released sometime this June in Korea.
