Watch The First OBLIVION Trailer

After the soft sputter of Tron: Legacy - a movie that made its money but left most underwhelmed - director Joseph Kosinski has rather a lot riding on Oblivion. After working as a hired gun on Tron and being the subject of a marketing campaign that did its damndest to push him as a visionary this one is Kosinksi's chance to prove he can actually wed a story and characters people care about to all of those pretty pictures. And if he doesn't do it here he may not get another chance to try again, at least not on such a grand scale.

Hyperbole? I don't really think so. Despite turning Disney a profit, the studio was unenthused about how that film turned out enough that they passed on this one despite having first crack at it, so the sheen is already off Kosinski in terms of any sort of wunderkind status. That Universal picked Oblivion up in Disney's stead is no great surprise as Kosinski is a money maker, after all, but if this one stumbles you can expect to see reductions in budget and freedom on future projects.

Tom Cruise stars in Oblivion, an original and groundbreaking cinematic event from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man's confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
The first trailer for Oblivion has arrived and, frankly, I'm not really feeling it. It's not really clicking as spectacle - the visuals offering little that a good video game doesn't - and the ideas seem rather re-heated thus far. Take a look below and tell us what you think.
