It has been a long time coming for Michael J Bassett's Solomon Kane. When the big screen adaptation of the classic Robert Howard character arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009 it was with a great deal of anticipation. Unfortunately it also happened to arrive when the industry was in the midst of a major financial squeeze and distributors simply weren't buying. And so, much like Sean Byrne's The Loved Ones - which also premiered in the TIFF Midnight Madness lineup that year and won the Audience Award - Solomon Kane was left to simply sit on a shelf. Which is a shame because it's rather a lot of fun.
