Of course, his involvement in the Sydney Unplugged anthology project has already been announced, where he will direct a short film set in the city alongside other Aussie directors such as Blue Tongue boys David Michod and Kieran Darcy-Smith. So that's something to look forward to. I'm hoping for something rugby-inspired, perhaps that final two minutes of play at the Souths' game a couple of weeks ago? Russell?
Now comes news that Crowe is attached to direct a biopic of the late, great comedian Bill Hicks. Looking at old photos, there is a resemblance between the two men, and if he were younger Crowe could probably get away with playing him on screen. Indeed that's how the project seems to have originated. But now Crowe appears to have set his sights on directing the film.
Written by Crowe's long-time friend Mark Staufer the film promises to be an in-depth personal account of the influential comedian -- as the writer has reportedly visited with Hicks' family and ex-girlfriends to research the story.
Admittedly Crowe hasn't done a lot of comedy, indeed a quick scroll back through his CV reveals even less comedy than Liam Neeson, which is really saying something. However just to show what Crowe doing comedy might look like, I've dug up a cameo he did on an Australian comedy show way back in 1992. Check it out below. It's still awesome.
