{Updated with English subtitled trailer.]
International audiences first encountered Norway's Odd Magnus Williamson when he appeared as the co-lead of Joachim Trier's fabulous debut feature Reprise. Critics embraced Williamson wholeheartedly thanks to that performance. Here was a true talent, they cried! A new force in cinema!
What they did not count on was that Odd would live up to his name.
A popular comedian in Norway, Williamson is indeed a very talented dramatic actor but one whose forays into drama are the exception, not the rule.
Williamson turned up in Fantastic Fest hit You Said What - a film that plays the central premise of Takashi Miike's Audition as a rom com - and now he's back with his You Said What co-star Henrik Thodesen in Norwegian comedy Tina & Bettina.
A feature expansion of the duo's comedy podcast, Tina & Bettina stars the two 30-something actors as the title characters: a pair of vain high school girls. Yes, this is a 'men acting silly in dresses' movie. It looks very silly indeed and even without subtitles has enough going on to provoke a few very good laughs. Check the trailer below.
