It's a goddamned miracle.
Last night Yash Raj Films unveiled the theatrical trailer for Kabir Khan's upcoming big budget film, Ek Tha Tiger. This is Salman Khan's latest film, and it looks different from his last few, but only slightly. I would've posted this trailer no matter what, but I'm excited to see that Yash Raj have finally decided that subtitles for some of their higher profile trailers is a good idea. For the first time in a long time we can get some idea of what we're in for aside from crazy action.
In my last dispatch over this film I talked about Salman Khan's domination over the Eid holiday, and I don't expect this to be any different. Indian theatrical release dates are notoriously fluid, and I'd imagine that no other film of any consequence will dare to open against Ek Tha Tiger, leaving Khan open to break yet another opening day record.
The first teaser, which we posted about a month ago, made Ek Tha Tiger look like a pretty serious action flick, but this trailer throws that assumption out the window. In this new look we open with the crazy action, but are quickly thrown into the sappy romance department when Khan meets up with real life former flame Katrina Kaif. I'm sure that the film will be tonally all over the place, but from the look of the trailer, Kabir Khan has a little bit better grasp on this stuff than some of Salman's other directors. Also, nobody does this kind of film like Salman Khan, he knows the beats and he knows what his audience wants. For the first time in a long time, I want to see a Salman Khan film on the big screen. Go figure.
For now, check out the English subbed trailer for Ek Tha Tiger, in theaters around the world August 15th.
