SAFE HOUSE Success Springs SNABBA CASH From Releasing Purgatory

It's amazing what a taste of success will do.

It was a little over two years ago that The Weinstein Company bought the rights for a Swedish crime thriller titled Snabba Cash, or Easy Money. The feature film from Daniel Espinosa was based on the first in a trilogy of crime novels and it caused such a stir at the Berlin film festival that while The Weinsteins were grabbing the original for distribution, Warner Brothers were setting up an English language version with Zac Efron to star.

And then we heard a lot of nothing.

In the intervening years a sequel has been shot - and will soon be released - in Sweden while star Joel Kinnaman has gone on to international success. But the Weinsteins did nothing at all with the film past an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Well, Espinosa has since gone on to direct a little film titled Safe House and that film topping the US box office for two weeks running has finally prompted TWC to do something with the film that landed Espinosa the Safe House job in the first place. Snabba Cash - under the English language title of Easy Money - now has a US theatrical release date of July 27th. Check out the Swedish trailer below.
