Kustom Kulture is the cult that has grown around a specific genre of artists that specialize in lowbrow/trashy art. People like Ed Roth, the creator of Rat Fink, have been doing this stuff for decades, but in the last 20 years the scene has grown exponentially. A few of these artists have even crossed over into the mainstream, probably the best know person in this area is Coop, who has done a ton of artwork for tattoo flash, as well as innumerable concert posters, sticker collections, etc. While both of those artists are American, it is hardly confined to the lower 48 these days, and the creators of this documentary are eager to show the world what's happening everywhere.
Flake & Flames: A Kustom Kulture Adventure is an upcoming documentary from Dirk Behlau and Jesper Bram, both artists in their own right. The film goes from Finland to California to interview and showcase the work of some of the finest lowbrow and kustom artists working today. Kustom Kulture extends from stickers and tattoo flash to graffiti to hot rods and more. If you can put a design on it, they've done it.
We at ScreenAnarchy are pleased to premiere the official film poster for Flake & Flames from our good friend Tom "The Dude Designs" Hodge. It captures the feeling beautifully and is a worthy addition to his growing CV. Hodge is responsible for some of the finest poster art of the last few years. His recent posters include Hobo with a Shotgun, Dear God No!, The Innkeepers, and Father's Day, and now he can add this wonderful piece of work to that list. Check out a couple of teasers for Flake & Flames Below as well as a larger version of the poster and some production stills.
