Salman Khan's DABANGG Gets Its First Remake With OSTHI

Last year's Dabangg was a record breaking hit for Salman Khan and director Abhinav Kashyap.  It is only fitting that this 80's styled masala film would get a remake (or two), and the first one off the starting block is the Kollywood film, OsthiOsthi stars Young Star Silambarasan, more concisely known as Simbu, as Osthi Velan; the cop with an attitude originally played by Salman Khan as Chulbul "Robin Hood" Pandey. Simbu doesn't exactly have the same imposing physical presence as Salman Khan, but from the looks of this trailer, he sure can dance better.

In an effort to help the film's chances, Osthi has added a critical member of the Dabangg cast to its ranks.  The film's villain will be played by Sonu Sood, who played the same role in the Hindi film.  Sood has been on a roll with hits lately, most recently performing in the critical hit, and super-fun action flick, Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap alongside Amitabh Bachchan. In addition to Bbuddah, Sood has also starred in two huge Telugu hit films in 2011, Pawan Kalyan's Teenmaar and Mahesh Babu's superhit Dookudu.  Sood is now one of the few Indian film stars with a solid cache between the big Indian film industries, along with Prakash Raj.

If you aren't interested in the Tamil remake, just wait a couple of months and you'll have a Telugu remake to look forward to.  Power Star Pawan Kalyan has already shot the Tollywood version of this story, titled Gabbar Singh, and we should start seeing footage from that one soon.

In the mean time, enjoy this boom-tastic trailer for Osthi, opening November 18th.
