After a long career as what could most charitably be termed a journeyman director could Daniel Lee finally be on the rise? Martial arts fans have long known Lee as the director of Jet Li's Black Mask, a film that is entertaining in bursts but significantly flawed. That description fits most of Lee's films since but it seems that in recent years he has slowly been climbing up the pecking order and landing higher quality projects. His most recent project - 2010's Donnie Yen starrer 14 Blades - though still not without some hiccups stands quite firmly as Lee's most roundly entertaining film. Will he be able to build on that success with the upcoming White Vengeance?
Lee is working with arguably his best cast here - Anthony Wong also stars, which automatically bumps things up a notch - and judging from the just-released teaser he has also assembled an all star technical and art direction / design team. The look of the film is absolutely fabulous and while we'll have to wait and see how the dramatic elements play out this already looks like a step forward for Lee. Check the teaser below. In the late Qin Dynasty, rebels rose and the nation fell into chaos. LIU BANG (Leon Lai) and XIANG YU (Shaofeng Feng), serving under KING HUAI, were the leaders of the rebellious army. Liu Bang and Xiang Yu became sworn brothers in the battles. They had conquered the heartland of Qin Dynasty and caused its destruction.
However, King Huai realized that Liu and Xiang were too powerful and he felt threatened by them. So he formed a plot to turn Liu and Xiang against each other.
The once sworn brothers now held resentment towards each other. Xiang Yu planned to kill Liu Bang at a banquet held in Hong Men. In the banquet, who will emerge as the winner?
